循環器系は生体の生命維持機構で最も重要な器官であり、その疾患の診断法・治療法・予防法の向上は臨床上、急務の課題である。循環器内科では、臨床面では、高度で最先端の臨床技術・知識・倫理観に基づき、循環器疾患診療および研修医・専門医教育を行っている。また、研究面では生命科学の最先端テクノロジーを用いて循環器病の病態解析および新規診断法、治療法の開発に取り組んでいる。教育面では、医学部学生に対して、循環器系の病態生理、内科診断学、臨床実習をおこうとともに、チュートリアルやセミナーを通して、自主的な学習、問題解決能力を養う教育を行っている。大学院生にはトランスレーショナルリサーチによる基礎研究の臨床への応用を指導している。さらに、次世代の医学・医療を推進する人材の輩出や、産業界との共同研究の実施による社会貢献、地域住民の健康管理を目的とした医療ネットワークを構築し、社会からの評価に値する活動を行っている。
Cardiovascular system is characterized by its responsiveness to the variety of stimuli including hemodymanic overload, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and tissue ischemia. The functional integrity of the system is mainly dependent upon the proper cellular response to these stimuli. Likewise, the microvascularture plays a pivotal role in the gas exchange between the alveoli and capillary blood flow in respiratory system. Maladaptation or the inadequate response of the cardiovascular/respiratory system to the extracellular stimuli is responsible for the development of the disease. From these view points, the research in this department focuses on the molecular mechanisms of the gene expression in response to the extracellular signals that are relevant to the pathophysiology in vascular cells, myocardial cells, and heart. Furthermore, our research is aiming at the development of the new strategies to overcome the cardiovascular disease which is the leading cause of the mortality and morbidity of the adults in Japan.
