当講座は北関東地域の脳神経外科の草分けとして1960年代からの長い歴史があり、特にパーキンソン病や薬物抵抗性の痛みやてんかんなどの機能性疾患を治療する全国でも先駆的な施設として発展してまいりました。現在では、大学附属病院としての機能を活かして、手術リスクの高い頭蓋底腫瘍や集学的治療が必要な悪性脳腫瘍、複雑な脳血管障害や脊髄疾患、などほぼ脳神経外科の全領域に渡る治療を行っています。
脳神経外科学を理解するには、技術研鑽を中心としたartと科学的アプローチで未解決の問題に取り組むscienceの両者のセンスを身につけることが必要です。近年、脳神経外科手術においてはさまざまな手術機器や画像診断の発展に伴い、ほとんどの疾患で安全で根治性の高い治療が可能になっています。
しかし、現在も重要な脳神経や血管に癒着する、あるいは言語・運動野に浸潤する脳・脊髄腫瘍、重要な血管を巻き込む血管障害などの治療困難な疾患に苦しむ患者さんもいらっしゃいます。われわれは、今日の患者さんを見つめ、見えない未来の患者さんにも思いを馳せ、脳神経外科学のartとscienceを追求していきます。
Department of Neurosurgery has a long history as a pioneer in neurosurgery in the northern Kanto region since the 1960s and has developed as a pioneering facility in the country, particularly in treating functional diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, drug-resistant pain and epilepsy. Today, taking advantage of being a university-affiliated hospital, we provide treatment for almost the entire spectrum of neurosurgical disorders, including high-risk skull base tumors, malignant brain tumors requiring multidisciplinary treatment, and complicated cerebrovascular and spinal cord diseases.
To understand neurosurgery, it is necessary to develop a sense of both “art”, which focuses on technical training, and “science”, which tackles unsolved problems with a scientific approach. In recent years, with the development of various surgical instruments and imaging techniques in neurosurgery, safe and curative treatment of most diseases has become possible. However, some patients still suffer from formidable conditions such as tumors in the center of the skull base, brain and spinal cord tumors adhering to the cranial nerves and blood vessels or invading the language and motor cortex, and vascular disorders involving critical blood vessels. We pursue the “art and science” of neurosurgery, looking at the patients we see now and future patients we cannot see.
